Surgery of gastric cancer

Gastric cancer (GC) represents the fifth most common malignancy and the fourth leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Although the incidence and mor- tality associated with GC has decreased over the last decade, more than 1 million cases were diagnosed in 2020 with an increased incidence among young adults. Multimodal therapy, utilizing a combination of surgery and chemotherapy, represents the best curative-intent option for most patients with localized disease. Nevertheless, disease recurrence is common and represents the leading cause o death in GC patients. In fact, recurrence after curative- intent GC surgery has been reported among more than 50% of patients. Our research mostly focuses on:

- non-clinical and clinical predictors of recurrence
- molecular and clinical determinants of peritoneal dissemination of GC
- molecular biomarkers evaluation in gastric/gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma
- predictors of metastatic lymph nodes at preoperative staging
- dynamic prediction of survival with sophisticated statistical approaches (i.e. landmark analyses)
